Manarole, one of the Cinque Terre
📍 Italy
🚶 Until 1874, Manarola was completely isolated. On one side by the sea, on the other by the steep hills, connected to La Spezia, Levanto and Borghetto Di Vara only by long and tiring hilly paths and winding paths.
The village, like the 4 other villages (Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia and Riomaggiore) constituting the Cinque Terre have high houses, labyrinths of stairs.
🍇 People started in the 5 neighboring villages of the Cinque Terre, because initially the Cinque Terre was more linked to the land than to the sea. The inhabitants worked hard to obtain new cultivable plots where to plant vines for produce a wine already famous in the Middle Ages.
